Problem Definition
The initial challenge stemmed from the pandemic disrupting plans for a mobile makerspace, making hands-on learning inaccessible. Additionally, many students found 3D printing intimidating, limiting engagement and skill development. Our goal was to create an interactive, gamified solution to make 3D printing more approachable.

Product Manager and UX Designer
I led cross-functional collaboration between programmers, modelers, and researchers to develop a VR-based 3D printing tutorial.

Solution


We designed and developed a VR experience that provided a hands-on introduction to 3D printing. The immersive tutorial guided students through key concepts, making complex technology more accessible. By incorporating intuitive onboarding and interactive elements, we reduced barriers to entry and increased engagement.

Impact


The VR tutorial boosted student confidence, encouraging more participation in 3D printing activities. It also demonstrated the viability of immersive education, leading to secured funding for a permanent makerspace on campus. Educators and administrators recognized the potential of VR as a scalable solution for hands-on learning, expanding its adoption beyond the initial program.
